I asked for their cheapest available room, which was reminiscent of a closet. It had no windows, and a bed that folded out of a cupboard screwed to the wall. Price was right:) Plus, I got to eat another of those delicious caramel rolls in the morning, which is apparently a Midwestern speciality. It was disconcerting having my alarm go off in the pitch black room, though.
The next day (I guess yesterday) I biked past another of those decommissioned minutemen missile silos. Did you know that there are still around 450 active missiles just like it? Several are located near Minot. I forgot to mention, but when I was camping at Fort Stevenson I met an airforce couple there. The guy was in charge of shooting one of these active missiles if we ever come under nuclear attack. Amazing.
A few hours later when I rolled into the Hope City Park to camp, I was super excited to see that I finally had cycling buddies for company!
There is a group called Cycling The US For MS (a supported fundraising ride), and they were camping in Hope too! They're some fun loving folk (and beer loving, turns out), and we made fast friends. They thought my bike was PIMP, and that I was really hardcore for being by myself. Haha!
'Twas a wonderful evening of swimming in the pool followed by late night blueberry pancakes.
Today I biked in to Fargo. I got my bike fixed up and then got a huge slice of pizza for dinner. Mmmm. Look at this giant saddle I saw in the bike shop. I was tittering to myself imagining the person who will use it.
Oh and BTW the guys at the bike shop gave me the award for strongest tan lines they had ever seen. Here's a pic of my glove tan. P.S. I just took a shower so it's not dirt.
Now I'm settling in for the evening. Missing everyone, especially Nathan, who is currently making his way to field camp in Montana! Go Nate! Go Nate!
